Election & Position Of Women Reservation
Recently, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the date of Lok Sabha polls or general election. This general election would have a great impact on women, as this time almost 50% of the population have women voters. Since women vote bank increasing after every general election, but the issue which is still stagnant is the representation of women in general election seat as well as reservation of women's bill that provide them 33% reservation in Parliament. It is said earlier that we have 50% women vote bank but we didn't have even 12% women representation in parliament.
Every political party have their own say regarding women reservation bill to provide 33% reservation seat in parliament. They are saying qualitative representation is more important than quantitative representation, which means they only want to give tickets to only those ones have the capability to execute their functions judiciously and honestly. Sometimes we see that behind a woman, her family member or her husband perform real power and women doesn't play any role that enhances her capacity to perform those duties.
Prejudice and stereotype are the base that prevents and stuck women away from the mainstream of society. Their so, even after discounting a great many women members of Panchayats who have held offices as proxies of their male relations. So there is no scarcity of potential women leaders for parties to choose from what holds them back is age-old patriarchy.
Hurdles to join Politics
Since cultural and social norms always being the hurdles of women to join politics or be a politician. In, Indian society, parents from every section always like that her daughter should work as a teacher, doctor, engineer, event planner, public relation manager, etc, but they never allow her daughter to become a politician. This stigma and conservative thinking of Indian citizens always stuck their daughter to remain away from politics. In our patriarchal society, people also think that women might not perform her work in a better way as a politician because they have to look at their family and children which could become the hurdle in their path of politics.
Why women Should join politics?
Everyone knows that women have more compassion than men, they perform their legitimate duty very conscientiously. As being women they behave in rational and just manner towards every section of society. whether deprived, minority, majority, other backward class, etc. The most important thing they are very passionate about their job and perform it by their heart. Since women perform multiple tasks in society and at their home as a housewife, as a mother, as a wife, as family caretaker, so they can understand the problem of women in society, problem of children, problem of old members in society and many others.
Conclusion
The best way forward is to give them (women) reservation in Parliament, on a qualitative basis not on quantitative. Any nation can't be called developed or modern nation, if half of it's population, remain away from the mainstream of society and politics. This is the duty of every nation to provide them adequate resources and representation in every field whether public or private, aided or unaided by the government to be in the mainstream of development of our country.
