Violence In Gandhi's India

"I object to violence because when it appears to do good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent"- Mahatma Gandhi

What could be the aspiration, ambition and intention of the innovator of social media developer? What led him to develop a platform at which peoples from different parts of the planet would connect with one another, expresses their thoughts, views and opinions? Understand the pains and problems of others and condemned the violence and celebrate happiness. Now honestly ask ourselves, are we really performing the same task, the intent it was developed.

Recently, India witnessed horrific killings, barbarity and gruesome violence between pro CAA and anti-CAA protestors. Some people also termed the violence genocide between two ethnic communities, against the law passed by the Indian Parliament known as Citizenship Amendment Act 2019, which aims to provide citizenship to the minorities living in three Islamic countries namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The government notified every citizen that this Act would not abrogate the citizenship of citizens living in India and does not harm anyone whether its minority or majority. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself reiterated several times that " this act is not to abrogate citizenship but made to provide citizenship".
After recapitulation of many times, the act does not harm anyone even then the protest continued and become violent and broke in the form of riots, after taking several lives now they become silence...

How violence Erupted?

Social media became boon for the perpetrators and plays a very significant and vital role in inciting the violence by spreading fake news. Old pictures from other Islamic countries like Syria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran and Afghanistan used to arouse the sentiment of the general and illiterate public, the peoples those were involved were totally orthodox, fanatic and bigot peoples. These peoples propagate, practice and profess their religion, custom and traditions without questioning right and wrong, without looking at once the national interests and interest of other religious groups.

There were reports that crime was organized and pre-planned because at that time the US President Donald Trump was in India on a two-day visit. Protesters wanted to show the glimpse of violence to US president and trying to get the attention of world media and sympathy from Trump. But when they found the plan doesn't execute according to their whim, they become more violent and horrendous killing, molestation and mass rapes making the situation out of control.

Retweeting and forwarding messages of hate speeches and pictures which incite violence was on top trending on social media, work to add fuel in the fire.

Demagogue Leaders

The political leaders those arouse public sentiment by appealing to the desires and prejudices to gain their trust rather than by using rational and legitimate reasons and arguments.

The hate speeches also were in very high pitch and played very specific roles in inciting the violence. Since India has plural diversity, peoples from different religion survive in this country and eventually, this led to different opinions. In such cases, the leaders have to be very cautious during delivering speeches and interactions with common peoples as their single mistake could lead to disastrous and unprecedented consequences.

Police and other armed forces have performed their duties very effectively, efficiently and vibrantly in such a violent ecosystem. They contained violence as soon as they deployed and got authorisation to deal with perpetrators harshly and return the normalcy for the peoples of Delhi. This incident is also a lesson to administrators and custodian of laws to take everyone seriously, not let anyone take laws and regulations in their hands.

The violence Could be Stopped

The violence could be stopped if the government and responsible citizen have fulfilled their duties honestly. The government should keep surveillance on each and every activity on social media which made the violence more violent and let the situation out of control. Hate speeches by the political leaders also add fuel to the fire and it should be curbed otherwise we could witness such violence in future too.

Citizens have to be very alert, watchful and attentive before forwarding any message on social platforms and check the authenticity of the message because our single mistake would aggravate the situation beyond controlling capacity of our security personnel.

As already mentioned that India is a diverse country, and people from different ethnic groups, caste, religion and language live in India. We have to be very prudence before instigating any act which causes trouble and instability to our society.
